Please be sure to check out this interview I did with Anniversary Magazine.
Bastiaan Woudt is a self-taught photographer from the Netherlands who started his own practice five years ago. With no experience or any formal training, he has developed a strong personal signature that manifests itself throughout a broad range of subjects. His style can refer to significant periods, such as Surrealism and the documentary photography of the 60s and 70s, while maintaining a contemporary edge that makes his work truly unique. We recently had the opportunity to exchange with Bastiaan Woudt on the origin of his artistic expression, his approach to new concepts and ideas, as well as how intuition plays an essential role in his photography.

Portrait of Ambo Mendy (2/3)
A few years ago I met Ambo Mendy in Paris. During this first meeting in 2016 with, model and dancer, Mendy, I realized that this would not be the last meeting. A year later, I travelled back to France to film him. A trip through the historic city of Paris brought us to the suburbs of Paris where Ambo grew up. I was curious about where he learned to dance, where he grew up and where he practices his dance nowadays. A musical and moving portrait is the result of these encounters. This is part 2/3 shot in his old neighbourhood.

Paris Photo New York show now virtual
Unfortunately Paris Photo New York (April 2-5) has been postponed, but we wanted to give you the opportunity to still see the newest works and the recently launched monograph ‘Hidden’ of Bastiaan Woudt. Now that the fair has probably been postponed for a year, we don’t want to deny you those beautiful works. We therefore have prepared a virtual exhibition of all the works we would have presented during the fair. Take a look around and if you want to know more about availability or if you have any other questions, just click on the Thumbnail page.
Legacy, Rugby
Last year I was commissioned to capture the timelessness of the legends within the Dutch Rugby sport. Though the images also had to reflect the roughness and dynamics of the players, it needed to reflect a multifaceted sport that doesn’t receive the acknowledgment it deserves. These photographs, and the magazine, try to restore glory to a sport that has long been forgotten in the world of sports publications. Shining a literal spotlight on the heroes of the craft, giving the sport the pedestal it deserves. Creating a moment to appreciate the players, the game and the goals. Through Legacy magazine I captured the past, present and legacy of Rugby sport and the players in the Netherlands.
Studio Tour
After many requests, I finally found the time to make a studio tour showing you the place I love to work in everyday. We are still testing out new audio equipment en lenses, so please be aware of some audio differences in this movie. I promise, everything will be beter each video! Its a learning proces!
Amsterdam Portraits
Intriguing photo series about the unique face of Amsterdam in dozens of portraits by Bastiaan Woudt
Photographer Bastiaan Woudt and gallery owner Roy Kahmann conceived the idea of portraying Amsterdammers in the spring of 2019. They parked their mobile studio in different parts of the city, in order to get the most diverse inhabitants in front of the lens. The resulting book, Amsterdam Portraits, shows Amsterdammers of very different ages, backgrounds and professions - from well-known actors to anonymous streetwalkers, from schoolchildren to pensioners. It gives a beautiful picture of the diversity that the city exudes. This is what Amsterdam looks like today. Bastiaan Woudt has made a rapid breakthrough in the world of contemporary photography. Although he only started photographing six years ago, without experience or education, under the guidance of Roy Kahmann he has developed a distinct style in a short period of time, with a preference for portraits and nudes and with an unprecedented eye for detail. Even if he only spends a brief moment with his subject, as in the mobile studio of Amsterdam Portraits, he manages to capture the essence in a powerful, iconic image.
